Cocoa Vanilla Studios, Inspiration

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share my latest project for Cocoa Vanilla Studios.  With the start of the new year, I’ve been in a bit of a ‘stash busting’ mood; I love a good craft room tidy and using up some of my older supplies to make way for some pretty new things!  I find this even easier to do with a fresh new cut file, this one is from CUTtoYOU called Spring Floral.

I started by choosing the background paper; this one is Line Up from the Totally Rad collection.  It’s one of the very last pieces of paper I have in this line and although it is a ‘boys’ collection, I have loved teaming it with my other supplies to make both masculine and feminine pages.

Next, I went about backing the cut file.  I’ve gone through and found some coordinating scraps:

Wild At Heart Double Dot and Luscious pattern paper and Love Always Lovely Things pattern paper as well as the black and white spot from the More Than Words 6×6 Paper Pad.  I simply alternated the designs for each flower making sure no flowers that were next to each other had the same pattern paper backing.  Once everything was backed, I’ve positioned the cut file onto the background of my page.

For my photo, I’ve stitched around the edge and then mounted onto another piece of the black and white paper from the More than Words 6×6 paper pad.  I’ve also added some foam behind it for added dimension and added to my page.

I’ve really now got the bones of the page sorted, time for some pretty details.  I’ve pulled out the Wild at Heart Die Cut Ephemera pack and found some pretty leaf die cuts to add.  I’ve also added in a stack of buttons from my stash which I’ve hand sewn on for added detail.

Next up, I wanted to lock in the title for the page, so I’ve pulled the Wood Veneer Words from the Wild At Heart Collection.  I’ve used the word “grow” and some of the pretty wooden hearts.  For an extra detail I’ve covered them with Gold embossing enamel and heat set, the wood texture of the these takes on the embossing very well and I love the end result.  I’ve teamed this with some plain white Thickers from my stash to make the title “Bloom and Grow”.  The photo is a selfie taken at a school event raising awareness for Mental health, and it’s a topic I’m really passionate about!  2018 was a year of self-discovery for me so I really wanted this page to celebrate that!

The page was almost complete at this point.  I just wanted to add a few little butterflies to round out the design.  These are from the ‘Patchwork‘ paper from the Wild At Heart collection.  I’ve simply fussy cut them out and added to my page with foam tape.

Here you can see the gorgeous shine of the embossing powder on the wood elements.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope you are all getting a creative start to the year.  Maybe this has inspired you to use up some of your stash to make room for the exciting new things 2019 will bring! If it has, be sure to share them over at the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Facebook group, we love seeing what you make.

Until next time,

CUT to YOU, Inspiration

Hi Creative Friends,

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas Eve, Eve!!!  I have one last share for you for the year before we get into Christmas week and all the magic of this busy season.  I have a huge week planned, so you might notice we are a little quite on Social media, not to worry, I have an even bigger 2019 planned and you’ll hear more about all of that soon!  The website will be open all Christmas however, there will be some small delays in shipping with all orders being shipped in the New Year.

Now, onto my layout! I may have mentioned before, I only tend to scrap Christmas during December, so today’s share is another Christmas layout, this time using one of our latest Christmas designs “Stacked Presents Background“.  This is one of my favourites from the latest release.

Here is the cut files I’ve used:

The idea for the design of the page was inspired by the cut file, this is why I love working with them so much!  I knew I wanted to cut it out quite large and it would really create the ‘framework’ for the page, all I had to do was back the shapes and add my photo!  If you order this one as a CUSTOM cut, this is the size it will be for you too!

I decided on the ‘Tis the Season‘ collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studios, it is a Christmas collection, however, I really only have the papers that are quite generic and could be used for lots of things.  I love the softness of this collection, it’s so versatile.  I also had a very small scrap piece of Black and White paper from the ‘Colour Me Happy‘ collection which I’ve also used.

Once the cut file was backed with my papers, I positioned it onto a white background.  I was looking for a clean look for this page and I do love the ‘white on white’ look.  I then took some time to add stitching to all of the presents in the stack.  I find these small details really add to the page.

Next, I matted my photo, again in a scrap from the Christmas collection, stitched around the edge and position on my page.  I’ve mounted with foam tape as well just for some dimension and to separate it a little from the background.

Now came the fun bit, adding all the embellishments!  I’ve gone with some stickers and die cuts here and there from the collection; not too much as I didn’t want to cover up my beautiful cut file!  I also found a couple of bows to add to my present stack, I love how cute these are!  You can see below that I’ve added some Holly too as a little gift decoration and a banner at the top of the page that says “Christmas Day”.

To finish off the page, I’ve added in some Enamel dots, also from the ‘Tis the Season’ collection.  They fill in some gaps, add some detail and helps draw the eye around the page.  It’s a pretty simple and clean design, and I love how it worked out.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope this has inspired you to get some Christmas scrapbooking done and I’ve left links to everything so if you’d like to re-create this page you can gather the supplies you will need.

Also, a reminder to join our Facebook group (if you haven’t already) – CUT to YOU HQ for more inspiration from the design team and lovers of our files.  I’m also having giveaways over there, so if you like free stuff, pop on by.

Until next time,

“First Snow” for Scrap The Girls December 2018

Hi Creative Friends,

December is here and I’m excited!  It really is the most wonderful time of the year!  For this month’s Scrap the Girls challenge we are getting our Christmas on and being inspired by Christmas print dresses AND I’m super excited to say that  CUT to YOU are again proud sponsors.  You might be surprised at the dress that I was most inspired by, be sure to check out my take below…

and here is my take!

I was inspired by the blue and white print dress with the snowflakes on it to finally scrap this photo of Caitlin on a trip to America a few years back.  This was her very first visit to the snow and as such a really special photo.  As I don’t normally do too much in blue tones I was waiting for the perfect inspiration to create with it so I combined the mood board with a new release cut file ‘Snowflake‘ and my page came together super quick and I just love love love it!

The design for the page was directed by the cut files.  I cut out several in slightly different sizes and then positioned them onto this stunning blue ombre paper by Cocoa Vanilla Studios.  I ran them top to bottom on my page and then stitched through them for extra detail.

Next, I added in my photo and mat, again using blue papers from Cocoa Vanilla Bohemian Dream collection.  I’ve then dug through my stash to find some blue and white alphas to match.  I’ve got a bit of a long title which really fills out the design nicely.

I’ve also fussy cut out a few butterflies from some more Cocoa Vanilla Studios pattern paper and spread across the page.  Sure, there aren’t too many butterflies in the snow, but they are still a pretty addition.

To finish the page out, I’ve added some cute fabric bows and an embellishment cluster in the bottom left-hand corner of my photo and some tiny die cut white flowers, in the hope, they simulate smaller snowflakes (kind of).  It was good to get these few things used up and out of my stash. Super cute, quite simple and quick to make and I do love the end result.

Be sure to upload to the Facebook group for your chance to win a fab prize from my cutfile store – I would love to see what you create!

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share my latest Cocoa Vanilla Studios project and this week on the blog we are creating with feature titles.  I love layouts with really large titles and I haven’t done many so it was fun to give this a go.  I’ve started with a sweet little photo of my daughter from a few years back printed in a smaller size to give me space in my design for the title.  I really want my title to be the main element in my page design for this one.

I began by looking through all of the Chipboard Title Stickers from the Bohemian Dream Collection and the word ‘beautiful’ stood out to match my photo.  I really wanted a long title for this page so I went onto Pinterest for inspiration.  I found the quote “Keep Shining beautiful one, the world needs your light” and thought it was the perfect fit.

Now, that is a lot of letters to use so I thought the best way around that issue would be to create a cut file.  This one is available in the CUT to YOU shop.  I have purposely left out the word ‘beautiful’ so that I could add in the chipboard title sticker.  You can add in whatever word best fits your photo. For eg.  Precious, Clever, Handsome etc.   I backed each of the letters individually using a variety of the Bohemian Dream papers including Abundant, Abstract, Dreamer and Beautiful Mess.  Yes, this took a while, but I just love the look it has created.

I then went about matting my photo.  I’ve used more of the Dreamer paper for this as well as some of the Wild and Free paper; I chose it because it has a lovely mix of spots in the same colours as those used to back my cut file.  While I was backing my photo I noticed the stunning blue ombre on the B side which I decided to use as my background paper.  I was tempted to go white with all of the other colours going on here, but the chipboard word ‘beautiful’ stood out far better on the coloured background.

Next, I locked in the position of my large title and adhered it down.  I positioned my photo and then went to work on the embellishments.  I knew I wouldn’t need much as the page was already really coming together.

I pulled out the Chipboard Accent Stickers first, with the bulk of the page being quite flat, I wanted the chipboard to add some dimension here.  How cute are the little birdies? I hadn’t used them at all yet even though I have created quite a few pages with this collection so it was really nice to get them onto this one.  I also pulled out a couple of floral pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack to create a cluster to the left and right of my photo. I also added a few Enamel shapes to finish off the page.

Thanks for popping by today, and I hope this has inspired you to create something with a big bold title, lots of words that really make it a feature.  Not sure where to start?  The cut file is available in the CUT to YOU store if you would like to recreate this page.

Until next time,

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share my latest creation using my new CUT to YOU Cut files! This photo was taken on Mothers day this year and I have been itching to scrap it, I just love it so much.  It features my mum, of course, my sister and my little Miss.  My mum rarely smiles in photos because she is really not a fan of having her picture taken but we were all just mucking around and it was so nice to get this more natural shot of her.

For this project, I began with one of my favourites, the ‘Bouquet’ Custom cut file, yes, this is the exact file you will receive if you are one of my Custom cut ladies who don’t own a Silhouette machine.  I’ve purposely designed and cut this one to be a large feature on the page.

This cut file also has a lot of white space designed in it with the idea that you can add lots of beautiful mixed media to it.  I began by pulling out all of my Distress Oxides, I have a few of these now and love love love them!  Of course, I have all the pretty colours like Picked Raspberry and Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber and Shaded Lilac and I get them all at The Stampers Hut, my local scrapbook store.  I simply pressed the ink pads onto my messy mat and then spritzed with water.  I then lightly spritzed the cut file and then pressed it into the inks.  I did not use gesso at all as I knew I wasn’t going to do layers and layers of mixed media, but would definitely recommend that if you really want to get messy 🙂

Next, I worked on my background.  I used the packaging technique here and also added a stack of splatters.  I’ve used Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock for this to help prevent that nasty warping.  It was now time to back the cut file.  I’ve used lots of papers from my stash for this.  I just love how cut files allow you to use up paper scraps and turn them into something really beautiful!  Next, I positioned my cut file onto my background and glued down with some Scotch Quick Dry adhesive. I purposely left some of the edges for added dimension and interest.  I love how they slightly lift off the page.

At this point the page was really coming together, all I had left to do was mount my photo in more paper scraps, and add some simple embellishments.  I’ve gone with florals that mimic the floral shapes in the cut file to bring everything together, a title and a few other little bits and pieces and that was the page done!

I just love love love how this turned out, those oxides combined with the cut file for me was the perfect fit for this fun photo and it’s so fun to be able to work with a product I’ve designed and see it come to life on a page.

Remember too, all of my designs are available as Downloadable files as well as, Custom Cut files for those ladies who don’t own a Silhouette machine.  I will personally cut them for you at HQ and ship anywhere in AUS/NZ.  Visit the website for more info – Release night is this Friday (tomorrow) 6th July at 7pm.

Until next time,
