CUT to YOU, Inspiration

Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all well this fine Thursday.  I have a new share for today, this one using one of my CUT to YOU digital cut files featuring a pretty snapshot of my baby girl from a few years back.  She adored this dress up costume so I have a few pics of her in it; many I have already scrapped.  So for this page, I wasn’t really that focused on the story, I just wanted to make something pretty.

For this page, I’ve used the Peonies digital cut file, yes, this comes as a custom cut, but for my design idea, I wanted the shape to be really large.  That is the beauty of using the digital version of the files, you can manipulate them in lots of different ways to make your project unique.  I’ve taken the file and enlarged it using my Silhouette software as I wanted them to be a real feature of the background of my page.

Next came the backing of the files.  For this, I’ve used the Bohemian Dream collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studios.  The pink and purple tones in this collection go perfectly with my photo, so I thought I’d make some pretty pink and purple Peonies!  You will see in the close up’s that I’ve also used some Vellum to back the outer edge petals of the files which really adds a softness that I love!

Once the files were backed with the pattern paper, I positioned onto my background page and stitched around the outer edge of my page.  Next, I matted my photo and added some more stitching around its edge for added detail.  It was then just a matter of pulling out embellishments from the collection that fitted.  I kept to this collection only for this page as I wanted to get something completed quickly and knew everything would work together really well.

To keep the design simple, I have run the embellishments from the top of the page to the bottom which also leads the eye down to my photo.  I’ve kept large areas clear to create some white space in the design which helps the elements on the page to pop.  Yes, this is a pretty simple page, but I still love it so much.  I love the detail the cut files added to the background and the layer of vellum to the outer edge of the petals especially (I’ll definitely be doing that again!)

Hi Creative Friends,

Thanks for popping by.  I have a new share for today, this one using another one of my CUT to YOU digital cut files.  For today’s page, I really wanted to use another one of the Floral Filled Hearts, these come in 4 different designs and I can’t pick a favourite!  I love these as they are very large and really help a page come together quickly.

I began by backing the cut file, for this layout I’ve used the divine Carta Bella Spring Market collection.  I was only able to grab the 8×8 paper pad and some chipboard embellishments in this one, but the paper pad was the perfect size for this kind of layout, I love how the prints on the papers are smaller than the 12 x 12 versions, perfect for backing cut files!

I started with backing a couple of the flowers in the white floral pattern, and another three in the black floral pattern on the cut file, to keep things from getting too busy, I then chose a bright green plain sheet for the remaining flowers.  Now, because I only had the 8×8 paper pad, I’ve used a Cocoa Vanilla Studios pattern paper for the background of the heart, this one is from the Bohemian Dream collection, it’s a great neutral.

Once that was all locked in, I added a pretty stitched border with my sewing machine.  These cut files have been designed with the outside edge quite thick for this very purpose.  I love sewing on them and I hope you do too!  I then mounted this entire cut file with 3D foam and added to the centre of my page.  This pattern paper for my background is actually from the Echo Park collection ‘Have Faith’ – it was the perfect shade of green to match the Carta Bella collection.

To finish the page, I backed my photo with some of the coordinating pattern papers and positioned on the right side of the heart.  To balance this out, I then went about building a cluster of embellishments in the top left-hand corner of the heart.  I pulled some wooden elements from my stash and love the softness in colour they add.  This lead me to pull out the wooden title ‘beyoutiful’ which I think is the perfect finishing touch and gets the title of my page sorted in one step.  I really love the addition of the wood to the colour combo and am really happy with the end result.  The crisp white of the cut file against a darker background and the softness of the wood elements make my heart happy.

If you don’t already know, all of my designs are available as downloadable digital cut files as well as Custom cut files for those ladies who don’t own a Silhouette or alternative die cutting machine.  I will personally cut them for you at HQ and ship.  I have over 100 designs now so lots to see in the store, visit for more info.

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share my latest Cocoa Vanilla Studios project and this week on the blog we are creating with feature titles.  I love layouts with really large titles and I haven’t done many so it was fun to give this a go.  I’ve started with a sweet little photo of my daughter from a few years back printed in a smaller size to give me space in my design for the title.  I really want my title to be the main element in my page design for this one.

I began by looking through all of the Chipboard Title Stickers from the Bohemian Dream Collection and the word ‘beautiful’ stood out to match my photo.  I really wanted a long title for this page so I went onto Pinterest for inspiration.  I found the quote “Keep Shining beautiful one, the world needs your light” and thought it was the perfect fit.

Now, that is a lot of letters to use so I thought the best way around that issue would be to create a cut file.  This one is available in the CUT to YOU shop.  I have purposely left out the word ‘beautiful’ so that I could add in the chipboard title sticker.  You can add in whatever word best fits your photo. For eg.  Precious, Clever, Handsome etc.   I backed each of the letters individually using a variety of the Bohemian Dream papers including Abundant, Abstract, Dreamer and Beautiful Mess.  Yes, this took a while, but I just love the look it has created.

I then went about matting my photo.  I’ve used more of the Dreamer paper for this as well as some of the Wild and Free paper; I chose it because it has a lovely mix of spots in the same colours as those used to back my cut file.  While I was backing my photo I noticed the stunning blue ombre on the B side which I decided to use as my background paper.  I was tempted to go white with all of the other colours going on here, but the chipboard word ‘beautiful’ stood out far better on the coloured background.

Next, I locked in the position of my large title and adhered it down.  I positioned my photo and then went to work on the embellishments.  I knew I wouldn’t need much as the page was already really coming together.

I pulled out the Chipboard Accent Stickers first, with the bulk of the page being quite flat, I wanted the chipboard to add some dimension here.  How cute are the little birdies? I hadn’t used them at all yet even though I have created quite a few pages with this collection so it was really nice to get them onto this one.  I also pulled out a couple of floral pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack to create a cluster to the left and right of my photo. I also added a few Enamel shapes to finish off the page.

Thanks for popping by today, and I hope this has inspired you to create something with a big bold title, lots of words that really make it a feature.  Not sure where to start?  The cut file is available in the CUT to YOU store if you would like to recreate this page.

Until next time,

Cocoa Vanilla Studios, CUT to YOU, Inspiration

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share my latest Cocoa Vanilla Studios project and this week, I was given the *cough* *cough* “CHALLENGE” to use Black and White plus one.  I just love love love creating pages with these types of colour schemes, they always end up so striking!  I’ve done a few like this one, so I jumped straight into this challenge. I’m wondering if you can guess what colour I went with…

The idea for this page began with my photo… I have been documenting more about myself of late and was itching to update my progress on the goal I have set for myself to get back “en pointe” with my Ballet.  Next, I wanted something really pretty to go with my pretty Pointe shoes and I was really drawn to this cut file by CUT to YOU (named Floral Heart 01) which I have designed.  You can find this one and more on my cut file store here.  I have a few of these floral hearts, but I will admit, this one is my favourite!

I began by backing the flowers of the file in the More Than Words ‘Darling Buds‘ paper.  Next, I backed the black of tiny leaves in the Hello Lovely ‘Life Story‘ paper using just the black portion of the paper.  The black/white of larger leaves were backed with the More Than Words ‘Gossamer‘ paper and lastly, the background spot used for the balance of the file is the More Than Words ‘Radiant‘ paper.  Once that was all finished off, I stitched around the edge of the heart and mounted the whole piece onto foam tape.

Next, I decided on my background paper.  I wanted something bold that would add to the design and could work well with the floral elements.  I went with the black and white stripe of the Love Always ‘Twin Set‘ paper.  I’ve run it horizontally across the page rather than vertically as I knew at this stage I had a pretty bold title planned and thought it would work better to have your eye be drawn across the page rather than up and down the page.

It was now time to mount my photo, I’ve used some more of the More Than Words ‘Darling Buds‘ paper to do this.  I’ve also stitched around the edge as I normally do.  I placed the photo on the right-hand side of the heart as to not cover up any of that hard work I did backing the file and those pretty pretty papers!!

Now was the time to place my large title, for this I’ve used the word “cherish” from the More Than Words Chipboard Title pack.  I’ve added the word “challenge” using a plain black alpha from my stash.  With the largest elements now in place, it was time to add some smaller details.  I started with a pretty little flower cluster on the right-hand side of my photo using elements from the More Than Words ‘Die Cut Ephemera‘ pack.

Next, I added some of the  Colour Me Happy Snip-its typed sentiments, these come on a thicker card sheet that you fussy cut out and are slightly larger than the ones available on the Accessory sticker sheets. I love these and can’t believe there are still some available in store!

I’ve also added a flair button to my photo, this one is from one of the Limited Edition Flair sets and then got to thinking about something down the left-hand side of my photo.  After a bit of fussing, I decided to die cut out some pretty bows in the More Than Words ‘Darling Buds‘ and ‘Gossamer‘ paper scraps and that finished off the page really nicely.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope you’ll give something like this a go, I do really love how my pages with these kinds of colour schemes work and this one with all the florals, pink and bows, well it is very girly and I love that about it!

Until next time,

“Sweet Moment” for Scrap the Girls Aug 2018

Hi Creative Friends,

August has arrived and I’m here to share the latest challenge for Scrap the Girls.  This month we have another stunning mood board to be inspired by.  I thought I’d draw inspiration for this month purly from the colours.  The images themselves didn’t lead me to any ideas but I did love the colours, they are just so vibrant and not colours I’d normally use so I ran with that!

The colours in the mood board are just so striking don’t you think!  I began by digging through my stash to find goodies to coordinate and first up I found a Thickers word “MOMENTS”  by American Crafts.  I really liked how it featured a combination of the purple/blue and that stunning dark red.  This piece has been in my stash for a while now, so it was a great place to start my page.

Next up, I went about choosing a photo and found this one of my little miss.. isn’t she the sweetest! To go with her pretty flower I wanted to incorporate one of my new CUT to YOU cut files.   This one is called Geo Floral and I love the hand drawn feel it has to it!

I backed the cut file in papers that matched the colours in the mood board, all of these are from Illustrated Faith – Gratitude Documented collection.  Sure, it’s for Bible journalling, but also has a stack of basic designs perfect for scrapbooking and the colours fit the mood board perfectly!

As my cut file was an extra large element to my design, I locked this into position first.  I wanted the leaf design to stem out from my photo leading the eye across the page.

Next, it was time to position that large title of mine as well.  I decided to run it along the bottom edge of the page and added “Beautiful” and “Sweet” to make the title “Beautiful Sweet Moment”.  I used a chipboard piece and foam Thickers which I have coloured with Shimmerz paint.

So, at this stage, the cut file, my photo and the big title were all locked in.  Time to embellish!  I’ve added 2 of the pretty hearts by Charm Creations who is also the sponsor for this month, some pretty bows, a butterfly and a die cut piece from Cocoa Vanilla Studios and the page was complete.

I’ll leave you with one more close up of that CUT to YOU cut file, so so loving the colours teamed with the fresh white!

I love how this page turned out… yes, they are colours I wouldn’t normally use, but that’s why it’s so fun to be a part of these challenges and I do love the result so I may even do this again!!

Be sure to upload to the Facebook group for your chance to win a fab prize from our sponsors – I would love to see what you create!
