Hi Creative Friends,
May has arrived and I’m here to share the latest challenge for Scrap the Girls and this one has my name written all over it! As soon as I saw it, I thought “this won’t be a challenge at all” how stunning is this mood board!!
Ohh so much inspiration here!! Immediately I was drawn to the text “Birthday Girl” and then had an idea to scan the image into my Silhouette and try to create a cut file title from the text. It worked a treat and here is how it turned out…
I cut the text out super large and ran it the full length of my page, so it kind of went from a title to part of my background, but I love it! I ended up cutting it out twice on plain white cardstock and layering them together slightly offset. For the lower layer, I coloured around the edges with some Shimmers Paint in a pretty pink shade. I’ve backed the file with a pretty black and white floral pattern paper.
Next, it was time to build my photo mat. I layered up some Maggie Holmes die cut pieces, the Carousel collection had a few larger pieces that were perfect for my small photo, I’ve also used some vellum from my Crate Paper stash. The photo is only 2 and 3/4 inch square, it had to be this small to fit in between the B and the I in Birthday.
To balance out the design, I wanted to add some elements on the right-hand side of the page, I choose some chipboard pieces and definitely rolled with the whimsical theme of the collection and just added pretty things… ohhh how I love the swan!
I then felt the photo needed a few more elements on the left-hand side. I wanted it to feature as the main embellishment cluster and the one on the right to be smaller and more for balance. I found these sweet little sticker balloons, perfect for the layout AND balloons feature on the mood board as well! I’ve also added fussy cut floral elements, puffy stickers and paper flowers. I just kept adding until I felt it was done. There is a lot on this page, but I love it!
I feel this layout is a little different for me, in terms of design, but all the products I’ve used are really in my zone so I just LOVE it! Oh.. and feel free to send me a message if you’d like a copy of the cut file I created to make your own Birthday Girl inspired page.
