Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all well.  I’m here today to share my latest project for Cocoa Vanilla Studios, and this one is part of our Monochromatic colour theme week.  I love these kinds of projects and had so much fun putting this one together.  I’ve gone with a mint/blue combo, which was chosen by Miss 12, teamed with a black and white photo of her taken on the night of her Year 6 graduation.

With the photo being one that celebrates her graduating, and heading to a party, I thought I’d use some pretty party banners for my background.  I went with the Banner Trio cut file for this one by CUT to YOU and cut out seven of the top banner.

I then went about backing the banners in a mixture of papers.  The green stripe is More than Words Treasure, the black and white dots are Colour Me Happy Spotty Dot and the green floral is Make A Wish Party Dots.  You don’t need much of each of the papers to do this, so it’s a great way to use up bits and pieces left of an older collection.

Once I had the files backed, I layered them onto my page making sure to slightly overlap them and then stitched down with my sewing machine.  I just made sure that I alternated the patterns in a random way for interest.

Next, I went about matting my photo, for this, I’ve used the More than Words Treasure paper and I’ve also used this as the outer edge of my page just to pull everything together.  That subtle pattern is now in my banners, backing my photo and now rounding out the edge of the page.  For my background, I wanted something fun, but not too distracting from the other patterns, so I went with More than Words Radiant, which actually happens to be one of my all-time favourite pattern papers of all the collections.

The page now had a really great direction and was now ready for some embellishments!  I went through my entire stash and pulled out a heap of elements, all in my blue/mint colour tones.

First up though, I wanted to place my title, I knew if I left it until the end, I would not have had space for it.  I went with the Bohemian Dreams Chipboard Title stickers for this, as they are white. I also pulled out the flair from this collection that says “One of a Kind”, you can get that here.

I found the sentiment “Memories are made of this” which I positioned at the top of my page on the  ‘Fussy Cuts‘ paper and then went on the look out for banner type elements to add to my page.

The “Oh So Happy” sentiment is from the Bohemian Dreams collection Ephemera pack, along with the “moments” tab positioned on the top banner.  There are chipboard and stickers from the “Make A Wish” collection, as well as elements from the Love Always ephemera pack.  There really is bits and pieces from so many of the wonderful collections and they all go together so well.  I just continued to add bits and pieces until I was happy with the page.  I just kept the elements running along the same lines as the banners to draw the eye across the page without it looking too busy.

Thanks for popping by today, as always, I hope this inspires you to make something in a monochromatic colour scheme. If you do, please share your creations over at the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Facebook group.  If you use one of the CUT to YOU cut files, be sure to share in the CUTtoYOU HQ facebook group too!

Until next time,
