Hi Creative Friends,
March is here and it’s time to share another fab challenge at Scrap the Girls. This month we are being inspired by this movie-themed mood board.
Ok, I must admit, when I first saw this mood board I was totally stumped. I mean, I haven’t seen ANY of these movies!! (I know, obviously, I’m just not a big movie buff and some of these are not really the kinds of movies I like). BUT, I do have a 12-year-old daughter so I thought, what better time than now to watch ‘Clueless’ and let that inspire me to design a page. Here’s what I came up with.
I was inspired by a couple of stand out things from the movie, first of all, that super fun Yellow, Black and White outfit that Cher wears and the quote “I’m majorly, totally, butt crazy in love with Josh!”
I then went about designing a digital cut file background based on the quote. You can shop it here.
I cut the design out in white card stock and placed it onto a bright yellow background. I then went about pulling out everything in my stash that was either, Black, White or Yellow.
I mounted my photo in a yellow and white spotty pattern paper and then again in a plain black and white text paper. I also found some black and white florals from a Maggie Holmes collection and fussy cut those out.
It was now just a matter of layering the photo with those fussy cut flowers to build the base of the design. Once those pieces were locked in, I went about adding in some more text elements. I found the circle chipboard piece that says “Best Day Ever” and the speech bubble that says “Hello”. I really just mixed and match pieces shuffling them around until I found the perfect spot for each.
Next, I positioned this large black and white bow, I’ve been hoarding these, but felt this was a great page to use one on. It’s a large element, so it does need to be positioned early in the design. Next, it was time to add in some smaller elements, like the circle brads and enamel dots. There are also some resin flower pieces from this months sponsor D-lish Scraps.
At this point, I thought the page was done until I found some yellow butterfly stickers out of a Maggie Holmes sticker book. They were the perfect finishing touch, filling in the gaps around my flower clusters; and the colour match was made in heaven, there was no way they were not going on this page!
Be sure to upload to the Facebook group for your chance to win a fab prize from this months sponsor.
