CUT to YOU, Inspiration, Scrap The Girls

“Caitlin Converstaion” for Scrap the Girls July 2019

Hi Creative Friends,

The first of the month means it’s time to share another fab challenge at Scrap the Girls.  This month we are being inspired by another fab mood board, this one filled with gorgeous muted tones.

and here is my layout!

I will admit, at first, I really struggled with this one, and you know what, looking at it now, I have no idea why!  Ok, I kinda do… it was the burgundy, that pop of the darker colour that was throwing me.  You see, it’s one of those colours that I really do not like (there, I said it).  Me and burgundy, are not friends.

So… that being said, now what… I still have a DT sample to do so I have to make it work!  So I dug through my stash and pulled everything I could that co-ordinated, popped it in a bag and took it to retreat.  I will add here too that there wasn’t a single piece of burgundy paper or stickers or anything in my stash; I figured I might just have to see what I could find from a scrapping buddy!

At the retreat, I pulled everything out and moaned and groaned some more about the burgundy and then asked if anyone had any small bits and pieces they would be prepared to part with; as a group effort to get this page done!  AND…. one of them said “hey, why don’t you just leave the Burgundy out?”…. LIGHT BULB moment!! Right there…. YES!  OK… I’ll do that!  and I just love how it turned out. Still not 100% sure if that is cheating, but hey, I ran with it!

Now that I had moved on from the burgundy, this page came together SUPER fast… I simply took a selection of pattern papers to back my cut file (Cut file by CUT to YOU – find it here) and my photo, positioned it onto my page and loved it.

Next, it was just a matter of adding in some embellishments, including this sweet ‘XO’ from Charm Creations, and some smaller elements including pretty gold enamel hearts.

I did also find a few darker pink elements, including the smallest dark pink sections on an old Crate Paper layered butterfly, a cute chipboard telephone and some rubber elements.  This was enough to give the colour combo depth without having to use the dreaded burgundy.  I also pulled in a smidge of black in some of the embellishments as a nod to the sketched image in the mood board.

Lastly, I added in a couple of tiny word elements and my title 🙂
