Cocoa Vanilla Studios, CUT to YOU

BRACE YOURSELF | HAPPINESS | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all doing well!  It’s my turn again on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog today with a new layout to share.  I couldn’t wait to scrap these photos of Miss 12, documenting a big milestone in her life.  She recently got braces!  It was a happy yet nervous day so I’m so glad I got these shots, she’s smiling and excited to be on the journey to a lovely smile.

I started the idea for the page with my two photos, I knew I wanted to use both a happy shot and a close up of her braces to document this day.  I usually only create with one photo, so was keen to lock in a design idea before sticking anything down to ensure I had enough space for everything.  I also wanted to use my paper punches as I’ve neglected those for a bit.  I pulled out some of my scraps from the ‘Happiness’ collection. (I’ve made a few pages with this collection now so had some smaller pieces of pattern paper to use).  I’ve just punched strips in various sizes in the different patterns.  I’ve used ‘Expressive’ ‘Good Vibes’ and ‘Meadow” papers for this.

Next up, I went about sorting a title for my page, I wanted something pretty specific so this one is actually a cut file I made especially for it, available at CUT to YOU; you can see the design below.  I cut it out on white card and then backed with more of the paper scraps and mounted on 3D foam.  I then mapped out a spot for the photos and the title and the paper strips. I then stitched the paper layers down and gently lifted up the edges for added texture.  I’ve also mounted my photos on 3D foam for some more dimension and separation from the background layers.

The bulk of the page was now all in place, it was time for some embellishing.

I went about fussy cutting out one of the frames from the ‘Happiness Frame of Mind’ pattern paper and added that along the left-hand side of the page. This filled in some of the space between my photos and the title.  I’ve added stitching here too for more detail and to ‘match’ the stitching on the punched paper strips.

Next, I pulled out the Die Cut Ephemera pack and sorted through all the goodies.  I’ve found a sweet floral, a cute tab with a heart on it and the sentiment banner ‘One of a Kind’.  I’ve added those around the page along with a Flair button from the Flair Buttons pack and some stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

At this point the page was looking very close to finished, it just needed one more thing… butterflies.  What page doesn’t need butterflies right?  With the ‘Bright and Beautiful’ pattern paper you get a stack!  I chose 4 of the pretty blue ones and fussy cut them out and positioned on my page.

Thanks for popping by today to see my latest project.  Lots happening on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog so be sure to check back frequently as well as the Community group on Facebook.  There is always a lot of inspiring projects to see.  I hope my page inspires you to get creative with the latest collection and as always really love seeing what you make!

Until next time,

WINTER WONDERLAND | BOHEMIAN DREAM | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all doing well!  I’m on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog today as part of their latest theme “Summer or Winter’.  I have a stack of Summer photos, living in beautiful Queensland, however, for this page, I took the opportunity to scrap a Winter photo from a trip a few years back we took to Big Bear Lake, California, USA.  I knew for this page I couldn’t go past the Bohemian Dream collection; it is one of my all time favs and I knew the pinks and purples would be a fab match to my photo.

I wasn’t really sure where to begin, so I started by choosing my background pattern paper.  I went with ‘Abundant‘ as the purple/blue tone are a perfect match for my daughters winter jacket.  I did have an idea that I would be using cut files and thought a darker background would be something different and help them pop off the page.  I also loved how the dots in the design were like tiny little snowflakes; perfect for the theme.  Next, I went about matting the photo.  I’ve gone with ‘Wild and Free‘ and ‘Day Dreamer‘ for this.

Next up, I’ve pulled out a cut file to help pull the page together.  This one is from my store CUT to YOU and is called ‘Winter Wonderland’.

I went about backing the cut file with three different pattern papers, alternating them along each row of letters.  For this, I’ve used the Paper Pad as I wanted the patterns in a smaller format to fit inside the small boxes of the cut file.  You could also use leftover paper scraps for this if you can’t get a hold of the paper pad for this collection.

I then positioned my title, the photo and the snowflake elements onto my page, with the title at the bottom, I positioned everything to help draw the eye from the top of the page to the photo and then down to the title.  Once I was happy with the placement, it was time for adding some embellishments.

I’ve gone through the Die Cut Ephemera pack and pulled out the moth die cuts and positioned on my page.  I found the matching element on the Flair Buttons and added that in here as well.

I’ve also pulled out one more moth from the Chipboard Accent Stickers pack. I also grabbed a stack of stickers from the Accessory Sticker pack including this cut tab with the word ‘Brilliant’ which I’ve placed in the top right-hand corner of my photo.  I’ve mounted the words from the sticker sheet onto 3D foam tape to give them extra dimension.

Lastly, I’ve dug deep into my stash and found some buttons from the Bits and Pieces Pack of the Love Always collection and added in three places.  The silver sparkle on these is the perfect touch.  I have hand sewn them in place for a handmade detail.  Lastly, some enamel shapes from the Bohemian Dream collection were sprinkled around the page and I called it done.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope our current theme inspires you to get some of your Summer or Winter snaps documented and onto layouts; I know I for one have so many of these unscrapped so it was fun to play along and I’m really happy with how the page turned out.

Until next time,
