Hi Creative Friends,
The first of the month means it’s time to share another fab challenge at Scrap the Girls. This month we are being inspired by Breast Cancer Awareness month and an image of 12 bras. I’m a Libra star sign, so my inspiration was the cute white number which I’ve combined with the Breast Cancer awareness colour which is bright pink.
and this is the image we are working with this month.
So for this page, I started out thinking about tones of white on white. I knew I wanted to work with a white background and then was inspired by a quite detailed cut file. This one is called ‘Garden Background‘ and is from CUT to YOU which if you weren’t aware is my Digital Cut File store.
I then got to thinking that I wanted to add in another colour for my page, I knew my photo was going to be Black and White, so went with the bright pink of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.
I had a few paper scraps in the loveliest bright pink, so went about backing very small sections of my cut file with it. I managed to back most of the flowers with quite a small scrap actually! Next, I found some pretty black and white floral pattern paper and backed the larger flowers with that and then some vellum for the larger circle elements of the cut file.
I wanted to keep the rest of the cut file open, as I mentioned at the beginning, my idea was a white tone on tone look. I’ve positioned the cutfile onto the background of my page and began to map out the page design. I didn’t stick anything down at this stage because I knew I wanted to add some mixed media underneath my photo mat.
Once I was happy with the basic design of my page, I placed some light pencil marks where my photo would be going, removed all the elements and added just a touch of Shimmerz watercolour mixed media to the background. Once that was dry, I’ve added the cut file with some foam tape, mounted my photo with some paper layers and added to my page.
Now it was time for some embellishing. I’ve started with this super cute heart from ‘Charm Creations’ which I LOVE, and it was the perfect match to my colour scheme. Next, I wanted to lock in my title, I’ve just gone with “delightful” which is a chipboard piece from my stash.
I just kept digging through my stores of embellishments pulling out anything that was pink, black or white and then went about auditioning them and their position until I was happy. Essentially, I’ve created a spread of elements that draw your eye from the top of the page, past the photo, down towards the right side bottom of the page.
These sure are my favourite types of layouts to make, just pulling different things from a stack of collections all co-ordinated by colour, it’s a great way to use up your stash!
