“Dreaming” for Scrap the Girls March 2018

Hi Creative Friends!

March is here and so too is the latest challenge for Scrap the Girls and it’s a doozy.  This month we all going to be crazy inspired by this cool mood board.

I just love the mix of colours in this one, all so bold and this is my take!

I love love love yellow so as soon as I saw it on the mood board, I knew I had to use this paper from my stash… so bright and happy and fun!  I simply added some white acrylic paint over the top of sections of it so that when I added my embellishments they would stand out from the busy background.

I then pulled out a new addition to my stash the “Dream On” collection from Pink Fresh Studio as the colour palette in this line is the perfect match to the mood board.  It made it so easy to create my page, I just love all the little elements in the ephemera pack and puffy stickers!!

How cute are these canvas bows, and in the perfect shade of blue for the mood board, you can get these from this months sponsor D-lish Scraps.

I just love how all the little pieces work together to make up this page, I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Be sure to upload to the Facebook group for your chance to win a fab prize from our sponsors – I would love to see what you create!

WONDERFUL MOMENT | MORE THAN WORDS | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

Here today to share with you my latest project for Cocoa Vanilla Studio.  I thought for this layout, I’d try and combine something from an older collection with the new MORE THAN WORDS collection.  Zoe always does a fab job of not only giving us something fresh and new but also having it work with what we have and I love that!  I also have to add here that I was itching to use the divine RADIANT paper with those paintbrush strokes on it and in fact, it is the only pattern paper I use for this one!

The next thing I pulled from my stash was the Chipboard Frames from the Wild At Heart collection.  There were quite a few bold patterns in this collection, however, there were also some really lovely watercolour elements and softer tones too.  I pulled the ones I thought the best fit with the colours in the RADIANT paper and set them out on my page.

Now came the fun bit!  I had a heap of candid shots taken of Miss 11 at a family Christmas party last year and whilst there wasn’t really a shot that stood out to me to belong on a page by itself, the shots as a group told of the pure joy she was having at the time.  They were the perfect choice to fill up some of the frames I had pulled for my page.

It took a little bit of juggling to decide which photo should go where; the one photo where she was looking at the camera became my main photo and the others filled in the gaps. With a design element like this, once it is sorted the rest of the page comes together really quickly.

Next was my title, for this I used the Chipboard Sticker pack which included both words “Wonderful” and “moments” – for my title, I simply left off the last ‘S’ to make it “Wonderful Moment”.

I have then added a few other Chipboard pieces including the sentiment “You Make My Heart Sing” and a bunch of chipboard hearts.  I also pulled some flowers and butterflies from the Die Cut Epherma pack.  I love how on one photo it looks like she is looking at the butterfly!

This finished out the page, a nice and quick layout for me which I love!  I am loving seeing everyone’s creations using the new collection, be sure to keep sharing them with us on the Facebook page!

Until next time,

Gwen

“Happy Heart” for Colour Blast

Hi Creative Friends,

There are lots of things that inspire me to create, sometimes it’s product, scrap that, mostly it’s product, and sometimes it’s colours or a sketch that I love.  It’s not all that often that it’s my actual photo!  (Weird for a Scrapbooker I know) But this page was all about the photo, I love it so much and really wanted to document the sweet and fun relationship I have with my hubby.  I didn’t have a plan for colours or products, I just wanted the page to be sweet and fun.

So when in doubt as to what colour I want to use, and I’m working with a Black and White photo, of course, I’m going to choose pink.  It’s a go to, I know I’ll love it.  I’ve chosen Blush, Punch and Lipstick for this page all in the Colour Shimmer sprays.

I’ve applied these to my background using the packaging technique allowing to dry fully in between layers.  I’ve then splattered with my favourite paint brush using both the sprays and the Colour Shimmer Cubes.  Once I was happy with the pink tones, it was time to pull out the Bling my favourite of all the Colour Shimmer Sprays.

I’ve added a layer of splatters all across my page both with the spray as well as with the cube, I find the colour in the cubes is bolder than that of the mists.  They both added the perfect shade of sparkly gold to my background.

While I had the Bling out, I added some to this doily I knew I wanted to use.  With the New Year, I’ve been on a bit of a kick of using up some of the older things in my stash, I’ve been saving (err, hoarding) this one for the perfect project and today is it’s day to shine!

Next, I went about adding some Punch Colour Shimmer Spray to these paper flowers, they started out a light shade of yellow and ended up a sparkly shade of pink with the soft yellow showing through.  This helped them tie in with my background and the misted doily I had prepared.

Now I had all of my elements ready it was time to build up my layers.  I started with a cut file, then added the misted doily and lots of other pretty elements.

I rounded out the page with the pretty misted paper flowers.  They sat so perfectly on that splattered background.

Here you can see a close up of the doily, (notice I didn’t cover it completely) I love that you can see part of the white and part of the sparkly Bling colour and the pink background, I really do love how this turned out!

I give this project a “mess level” of Medium.  It is a messier style background and there was a bit of clean up with misting the flowers and doily, worth it though, those elements now coordinate perfectly with my project.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope this page inspires you to scrap a sweet page of your hubby or partner, it is the month of love after all and as always, be sure to share your creations, I really love seeing what you all make.

Until next time,

Gwen

VINTAGE LOVE | MORE THAN WORDS | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

It’s LOVE month on the blog for Cocoa Vanilla Studios and the whole team are sharing their “love” inspired projects.  I thought I’d do something a little different for the theme and talk about my love of all things Vintage and why not use the latest collection MORE THAN WORDS as I love that too!

On a recent trip to a local Antique centre with my sister, I took a few photos of the pretty things.  They inspire me so much and my studio is filled with bits and pieces from teacups to swan figures to vintage draws to plates and bowls.  I even have a beautiful vintage bathroom tile which features in my main photo here.

The idea for the page came from the divine NOTEWORTHY paper, one of my first favourites from the collection.  I began by trimming off the top portion and small part of the bottom so that I was left with just the lines.  I did this as I wanted the widest column to be on the right side of my layout (so yes, it is upside down), not that you can tell now that all of the words have been cut off.  I mounted this piece on a plain white cardstock sheet and hand stitched along the top and bottom edge with pink thread.  I really love the grid design of this paper and its vintage feel.  I can see it being used on school themed layouts too!!

I then decided to run with a verticle design by layering up 3 die cut hearts I had cut from a file from the Silhouette store.  I cut them out of white cardstock first and then again (just the centres) in the RADIANT paper.  I really like how you can see the background poking through them and that the centre pops because of that cute spotty paper.

Next, it was time to mount my photo.  I couldn’t go past the COLLAGE paper for this, so many pretty patterns on one sheet of cardstock!  I simply cut them out and layered them up.  I’ve also added a layer of GOSSAMER paper for my base I did feel it needed a little bit of black to separate it a little from my background, it also helped balance out the darker parts of my photo.

The bones of my design were now locked in place, next it was time to fit in my title. I’ve cut it using my Silhouette – the font is called “Shoreline Script Bold” using the DARLING BUDS paper.  It was at this point I knew I needed some dimension so I went to the Chipboard Stickers.  There are so many sweet designs in this pack, I’ve used the Banner, butterflies, “Hello Lovely” sentiment, a heart and the arrows all on this page.

I’ve also taken elements from the Die Cut Ephemera pack including the “love this” and “Happiness” sentiments.  The small typed stickers are from the Sticker Accessory sheet – and don’t we all love these!

Now that the smaller elements were in place, the page was finished and I do love how it turned out.  I think this is a pretty classic scrapbook design and one that I know I will go back to in the future.  Thanks for popping by the blog today, I hope I’ve inspired you to scrap something you love that you may not have thought to scrapbook – all of these things make us who we are and why not document that!

Until next time,

Gwen

“Sweet Heart XOXO” for Scrap the Girls February 2018

Hi Creative Friends!

Feb is here and so too is the latest challenge for Scrap the Girls.  This month we are working with a sketch created by the super talented Sue Plumb!

and below is my take!  Rather than have one large heart, I ran with the fact there were 2 in the sketch and made them a little smaller.  I also switched up the photos working with just the one.

To represent the initials at the top of the sketch, I added in the XOXO embellishment, this also acted as a subtitle of sorts and also helped bring a pop of black to the top of the page.

Here you can see my hand stitching (always fun for me) – I think it added a softer touch to the page which is quite bold with all those pops of black and quite a few larger elements.

A cute lil chipboard birdie and below a Charms Creation tab, love these!!  A handmade element to add to my page that I didn’t have to make!

I just love how it turned out.
