"Follow your heart & Dance" for Colour Blast

Hi, Creative friends!!

Back with you today as part of the Colour Blast team sharing with you another “clean mixed media” project, this time featuring a beautiful rose cut file.

The idea for this project came from this divine Roses cut file I have used to fill my entire background.  I love cut files like this one as it is a great start to a page, add some sparkles and the page pretty much makes itself.

To create my page, I started with a few small splatters in the top left-hand corner and bottom right-hand corner of the page using the Colour Shimmer Cubes in Blush and the Shimmer Spray in Blush as well.  I find the colour in the Colour Shimmer Spray to be quite light compared to that of the colour in the Shimmer cubes (especially if you don’t water it down very much) so it’s nice to use the same colour in a couple of different products for a colour on colour affect.  The dark splatters here are the Shimmer cube and the light ones are the Shimmer spray.

Next, using a combination of Blush in the Colour Shimmer Cube and Lipstick in the Colour Shimmer Cube as well as more of the Blush Colour Shimmer Spray, I have painted the cut file.  I have not been too particular with the painting as I really wanted a variety in the depth of colour – I was really hoping to see the variation in the colours here, whilst they are all in the same colour family, the Lipstick is a bit darker so I tried hard not to blend it all too much.

Once I was happy with the colour on my cut file, I dried it off with a heat gun. I then layered it over the splatters I created in Step one and glued it down to onto my background.  I didn’t use very much glue, just enough to keep it in place for the next step.

Now was the time to add some stitching.  I have created loose circles with my sewing machine creating a few circles around each of the flowers.  This took some time but was worth it considering it was the main feature of the design.  You can see a close up of the stitching below as well as the different shades of pink on the cut files; I love that the colour is not perfectly blended and in some sections, you can see quite a bit of the white cardstock showing through.
Next, it was time to add my photo and embellishments.  Whilst I had the 9 Roses in the background sorted, I wanted to add two main focal points for the actual design, a smaller one in the top left-hand corner which features a chipboard piece that says “Follow Your Heart” and the larger one including my photo in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.

I’ve mounted my photo keeping the photo mat pretty simple as I already had quite a bit going on with the rose background.  I’ve added a few embellishments on the left with the main cluster on the right including some pretty flowers and a geometric heart embellishment.

Finishing up the page, I added the word “Dance” to round out my title – Follow Your Heart & Dance as well as some pretty yellow butterflies for contrast.  I like how these ones look painted without the mess and hard work 🙂

and there you have it.. my second Colour Blast project – I really hope you like it and it inspires you to work with the new Colour Shimmer cubes, and your Shimmer Sprays they really are beautiful!
But, before I go, I just wanted to share one last image… this one of my swatch book.  I have swatched out my collection of Colour Blast onto plain white cardstock, punched a hole in the top left-hand corner and placed onto a jump ring.  I love how I can quickly and easily see what a product will look like once dry and compare to other products in the same colour family.  If I have a colour in more than one product, I have placed them side by side on the jump ring for easy comparison.  This also shows me at a glance the colours I am missing and what I need to add to my collection next!
I give this project a “mess level” of Low
(A quite wipe of the messy mat with a baby wipe after painting the cut file, 1 paint brush and 1 cup of water)
Hands, nails and workspace remain totally colour free!
Thanks for popping by

Pink Paislee Summer Lights – Guest DT for Sassy Scrappers – Mermaid Hair don’t Care

Hi Creative Friends,

I’m back on the blog today with another share as this months Guest Designer for Sassy Scrappers!  This month I’m creating with the latest collection from Pink Paislee – Summer Lights and today I’m sharing my second page.  If you missed the first one, you can check it out here.
As soon as I saw this collection, I knew I had to create a page with the chipboard Mermaid – how cute is she!!! AND that sentiment, “Mermaid Hair don’t care” I adore that too so I then went about finding a photo of Miss 10 that would fit those. Living on the beautiful Gold Coast, we enjoy Summer most of the year and often find time to go to the waterfront for a swim, so it was not hard to find one of her looking like a gorgeous mermaid!

Next, I pulled out a stack of the frames from the Ephemera pack.  I wanted to heap them up as the base for my photo mat.  I just layered them up across one third of my page crisscrossing at different angles.  I then went about matting my photo, and added some foam tape for dimension.  Then it was time to add the mermaid, she was a perfect fit just to the right of my photo.  The chipboard in this collection is so sweet, with lots of cute icons and I thought why not add the umbrella here as well as some cute shells from the ephemera pack.

Once I was happy with this little cluster, I went about finding a spot for the sentiment “Mermaid Hair don’t care”.  It was a perfect fit under the photo and rounded out the embellishments needed for this side of the design.  This then meant that the left hand side of the page was a little bare so I found the “Beach Life” chipboard piece and the little sign and camera and added these in.  I’ve also just slid a tag under my photo here as well, just for a little bit of interest and a lovely pop of pink!

I’ve added a couple of Rhinestones from my stash to round out of the layout and it was done.  I’m really happy with the clean look it has even though I’ve used a pattern paper for my background.
Thanks for checking out the blog today, I hope I’ve inspired you to get those Summer photos scrapped, this collection really is perfect for it!

Pink Paislee Summer Lights – Guest DT for Sassy Scrappers – Summer Love

Hi Creative Friends,
Super excited to be stopping by the blog to share as this months Guest Designer for Sassy Scrappers!
I do not know how Olga manages to get her hands on all the latest release goodies so fast, but I sure am happy to be able to snap them up!  This month I will be creating with the latest collection from Pink Paislee – Summer Lights and today I’m sharing my first page.
The idea for this page started with that cute bright pink ‘Summer’ element from the No 12 paper and the word ‘Love’ from the card stock sticker pack.  I knew I wanted to make this my title for a sweet photo of hubby and me at the beach.  Often, when I’m creating, a whole idea for a page starts with one or two elements from a collection, just like it did here, it makes creating so easy!
Next, I just had to use the cute little wave elements, these came from the card stock sticker pack as well as the Thickers sticker sheet.
It was now time to mount my photo.  To do this, I’ve added lots of lovely paper layers from the 6×6 paper pad.  I will often grab these when purchasing a new collection as they are a really economical way to get all the papers.  There is a stack of fun elements in the collection to choose from, but I thought the hearts were a great choice seeing it was a page about Summer Love!  I have also included lots of other Summer icons as well including cool glasses and icy poles, so fun!
Once my paper layers were all decided, the page had come together nicely.  All it needed was a little sprinkle of interest on the left and right side.  I started with the space above the word ‘love’ as it was the largest and chose a sweet little camera sticker and a shell from the chipboard pack.  I also added some stars from the card stock sticker sheet and a heart I’d just punched from a sneaky scrap I’d had from the photo mat.
How cute is the rainbow element?  It was the perfect touch for the top left-hand corner of my page.  Here you can also see the sprinkle of elements I created on the left, more punched hearts from the offcut pattern paper and some rhinestones from my stash.
Thanks for checking out the blog today, I know it’s Winter here in Australia right now, so what better time to remember the joys of Summer and get those photos scrapped, this collection really is perfect for it!

Until next time,

"Love Melbourne" for D-lish Scraps

Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all doing well!

I’m here today to share another layout for D-lish scraps, this one featuring a shot of my beloved Melbourne!  I adore this place and once a year I take a trip down with my bestie and we have an absolute blast, shopping up a storm and eating one too many macaroons.  Each year I act the tourist by taking a stack of photos of the old buildings around the city; this one is one of my favs, I just love the vintage details!

This page started out with the cut file I have used in the background.  I fell in love with the heart shapes and simply backed with contrasting pink and white and then added some machine stitching.  With a busy background like this one, I knew I wanted to keep the rest of the layout pretty clean and I knew I would find sweet little D-lish goodies to add that would be the perfect finishing touch.

I have created a little photo mat for my photo, just to separate it from the background.  I’ve done this with a couple of layers of scraps. To the left side of the photo I’ve added a few tags out the side for interest.  There are a stack of Printed Tag Packs to choose from in store and I love the solid white tops on them so you can choose how much of the design you want to show.  On the right side of the photo, I have added an embellishment cluster featuring my favourite Fantasy Bloom flowers.
Here you can see the ‘love’ Corbett Creations wood words piece which makes up part of my title, and the daintiest little heart which I have kept plain and simply placed inside of one of the die cut hearts on the background.
I have also added a Wood Veneer Heart to round out my cluster and you can also see here the cute little Bitty Bow clip – You all know I’m quite partial to a bow and these are so sweet!  I love sliding them in between my paper layers so that you don’t see the paper clip part, and just the sweet little bow.  They are a great little touch to add.

and that rounds out the layout.  As I mentioned, with such a busy cut file background, I didn’t need to add too much more to the page and it was done.

BEAUTIFUL | WILD AT HEART | GWEN WRUCK

Hi Creative Friends,

Back today for another Cocoa Vanilla Studios share, this time using the stunning and crazy popular Wild At Heart collection.  Perfect for a page featuring Miss 10.  She doesn’t always like having her picture taken, but from time to time she humours me and lets me take a stack, posing along the way.  This page celebrates the beautiful, unique person she is.

The idea for this page came from the “Beautiful” sentiment from the Chipboard Accent Sticker sheet.  It makes such a bold title, I knew I wanted to use it along with many of the other elements on this sheet.  For my design, I placed the title first, I often do this with larger elements, because if you leave them until later in the design process, frequently they don’t fit anywhere.  I find if I place my photo and the larger items first, that sets the design for the page and it comes together pretty quickly after that.

Once I had an idea of placement for my photo and the title, I then went about pulling out all of the other blue elements from the Chipboard sheet.  To mount my photo, I decided to use the Memento paper, I love the floral mix on this one and how it has a lovely mix of blue, purple and touches of pink.

Next, I began placing the chipboard elements down the left-hand side of the page.  At this point, I felt the layers needed a touch of pink, so pulled everything off and added a very light coverage of Colour Blast mist using the packaging technique.  It is very subtle, but it helps ground those elements and gave me a bit of a guide to build my embellishments onto.

Next, it was time to add some more layers.  I did this by punching strips of the Memento and Luscious paper with a border punch, layering them up and stitching them down.  Next, I went through the Accessories Sticker sheet and pulled out some co-ordinating elements.  I set about building a large cluster of elements that ran from the top of the page down to the photo at the bottom.
I also grabbed the sentiment “You’re some kind of wonderful” and “So Lovely” from the Fussy Cuts paper.  Stitching some down, and raising some up for interest.

I continued to add layers and bits and pieces until I was happy with the design adding a flair button, the cute little word sentiments from the Accessories Sticker sheet at the end, followed by some Sparkles for a finishing touch and the page was done.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope my page has inspired you to pull out your stash of Wild At Heart and your punches and get creative.
